8 Races 8 Continents 1 Cause Team PAWS

Eric Bruce

Eric Bruce

Welcome Back to my 13th & 14th year of Saving Lives! I especially appreciate the dedicated ones who have graciously donated through all these years allowing us to save approximately 25 lives.

I am one of the original Team PAWS members. I have run for Team PAWS every year since the team was founded and believe I am the only runner from the original group still running.

I have decided to pursue a very ambitious goal to run a marathon on all 8 continents for Team PAWS and raise a record high for me - $5,000.

And yes, scientists have discovered an 8th continent - Zealandia!

Why am I so passionate about Team PAWS mission? Simple - Dogs have always been a very important part of my life. My most recent best friend I rescued is Bassador Chase the Rapper! I have had him in my life since Halloween 2017. He lives with my other rescue Basset Hound Roscoe P. Coltrane. I strongly feel that helping homeless animals find homes is a life mission.

I rescued Roscoe in July 2016. He is a 7 yo who was abandoned in an Alabama Kill Shelter because he barked too much. He loves belly rubs and running when the weather is cool. And he doesn't bark too much.

I rescued Chase in November 2017. He is a 1yo pup who was picked up as a stray living on the streets. He has come out of his shell and loves to run with me and 'chase' his friends at the dog park. He has a forever home and is loved.

So far, I've run:

- Victoria Falls Marathon (Zimbabwe, Africa)
- Tokyo Marathon (Japan, Asia)
- London and Paris Marathons (UK/France, Europe)
- Boston, Chicago, New York Marathons (USA, North America)
- Patagonian International Marathon (Chile, South America)
- Great Barrier Island Wharf to Wharf Marathon (New Zealand, Zealandia)
- Melbourne International Marathon (Australia, Australia)

2018 was so much fun. I ran the 2018 Great Barrier Wharf to Wharf Marathon (New Zealand) and 2018 Melbourne Marathon (Australia) for Continents 6 & 7. Upon my return, I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC and the Charlotte, NC Marathon as a "Victory Lap" too.

I am honoring Roscoe and Chase for 2018 / 2019.

2019 will be even more exciting. I plan to run the Asheville Marathon March 2019 and the Paris Marathon in April 2019. There also will be some Ultramarathons as I have the Tahoe Rim Trail 50 miler race in July 2019.

And drum roll please, the Antarctic Ice Marathon in December 2020 for my 8th and final continent.

PAWS Chicago is dedicated to building No Kill communities – starting with a No Kill Chicago – where all healthy and treatable pets are saved. Since PAWS Chicago’s founding in 1997, the number of homeless animals euthanized per year in Chicago has dropped more than 80 percent. In 2016, PAWS Chicago found loving homes for more than 5,100 homeless pets. But there is more work to be done and your generosity is crucial to this effort.

Please consider supporting me by making a donation and helping PAWS Chicago provide vital medical care, food and shelter to thousands of homeless pets this year. PAWS receives no government funding and relies solely on people like you to help provide continued care for Chicago's homeless animals.

Your support will allow us to build a truly humane and compassionate community, one pet at a time. Please consider donating to my cause.

If you are feeling extra generous, please consider sharing my page with your network or check with your employer if they will match your donation to make the most out of your generosity.

So it's very simple. Roscoe, Chase and I will run. You donate. Thank you for your support!
