Really? Running??

Sandra Kirkby Baker

Sandra Kirkby Baker

Welcome friends,

Seven years ago, my husband Corey and I welcomed a bonded pair of mis-matched senior dogs into our life. I knew they were cute, and quirky, and wonderful to come home to, but I didn't know at the time what an impact they would make on me and my support for animal rescue organizations. We were able to give Barclay a loving home, tasty food, veterinary care, and endless treats for nearly four years, and Macy for six and a half, but there are millions of dogs across the country that are not so fortunate.

While we donate, like Instagram posts, and are starting to volunteer, there is always more to do. This time, I am stepping WAY out of comfort zone to take part in the PAWS Shake Your Tail 5k this June. As many of you know, I haven't run a combined five kilometers in the past ten years, so this is a pretty big deal for me.

So, as I open myself up to the absolute terror of running (I literally do not know how to do it), I ask you to open your wallets and donate what you can to PAWS. Together, we can help make the days brighter for the other Macy and Barclays out there.

I appreciate your time and consideration, and anything you are able to contribute. If you find yourself unable to give at this time, I encourage you to find some way to help these animals that cannot help themselves - volunteering, fostering, or simply sharing a shelter's Instagram or Facebook post for more exposure. They are counting on us, and I think I know you well enough to know you'll deliver.

Thank you,
Sandy xo

(Recommended PAWS script below...they say it better than I do)

PAWS Chicago is dedicated to building No Kill communities – starting with a No Kill Chicago – where all healthy and treatable pets are saved. Since PAWS Chicago’s founding in 1997, the number of homeless animals euthanized per year in Chicago has dropped more than 80 percent. In 2016, PAWS Chicago found loving homes for more than 5,100 homeless pets. But there is more work to be done and your generosity is crucial to this effort.

Please consider supporting me by making a donation and helping PAWS Chicago provide vital medical care, food and shelter to thousands of homeless pets this year. PAWS receives no government funding and relies solely on people like you to help provide continued care for Chicago's homeless animals.

Your support will allow us to build a truly humane and compassionate community, one pet at a time. Please consider donating to my cause.

If you are feeling extra generous, please consider sharing my page with your network or check with your employer if they will match your donation to make the most out of your generosity.

Thank you for your support!
