Running to Help Animals find their Fur-ever Homes!

Angela Accurso

Hi everyone, I'm running the Chicago Marathon for PAWS!

My marathon inspiration started about a year ago when I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Before I was diagnosed, my body went through a series of changes that altered my relationship with my body. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin, I was often in serious pain, and I developed severe depression. Like many other women, before I knew what was going on internally, my self-esteem deteriorated and I forgot to appreciate all that my body does for me on a daily basis.

I've since found a great doctor that helps me manage my symptoms, but each day is a challenge to truly appreciate all that my body has done for me: I've climbed mountains and have run more miles than I can count. I can walk and move, lift a crazy amount of weight, and see the world around me.

I've recommitted to improving my relationship with myself and as a part of that, I swore that I would never take my body for granted again and pushing it to its full potential. And I'm going to do just that, starting with running 26.2 miles!

If you know me, you know my love for animals and I'm so proud to be running to benefit PAWS Chicago, an organization dedicated to building No Kill communities where all healthy and treatable pets are saved. Since PAWS Chicago’s founding in 1997, the number of homeless animals euthanized per year in Chicago has dropped more than 80 percent. In 2016, PAWS Chicago found loving homes for more than 5,100 homeless pets.

Please consider donating to this amazing organization and helping me get to the starting line of the marathon in October!

Thank you for your support!
Angela
