PAWS Chicago’s 5K Walk/Run

Welcome to the 18th Annual PAWS Chicago 5K Walk/ Run, presented by VCA Animal Hospitals - Chicago's LARGEST dog-friendly event, benefiting PAWS Chicago, for animal lovers and their canine companions. This event welcomes more than 4,000 human and 1,200 dog participants who come together and take steps to save the lives of homeless pets.

In addition to the main event, participants will enjoy live entertainment, food & drinks, free giveaways and more!  This annual celebration is critical in raising the funds necessary to ensure PAWS Chicago can continue to save and care for thousands of homeless pets each year!  PAWS Chicago's 5K Walk/Run was named one of Chicago's Top 100 Events in 2016 and 2017, and Top 10 Athletic Events in 2017 by BizBash!

     OUR 2018 EMCEES:  Jake Hamilton & Natalie Bomke    
We are excited to announce this year's emcees, FOX 32's Jake Hamilton and Natalie Bomke!

     Emmy-Winning Reporter Jake Hamilton is the Features & Entertainment Reporter for FOX 32’s “Good Day Chicago.”  Jake got his start as the film critic for the Houston Chronicle at the age of 14, before making the jump to television at 18.  He spent years traveling the world and interviewing the planet’s biggest stars before landing at FOX 32 Chicago in 2013.  Jake and his fiancée Ren adopted their beautiful dog Daenerys from PAWS in 2016.

     Natalie Bomke is an anchor on FOX 32’s “Good Day Chicago.”  Natalie's broadcast career began in Central Illinois as a morning anchor and reporter for WICD-TV in Champaign and WICS-TV in her hometown of Springfield.  She co-anchored FOX40 Live Morning News in Sacramento, California and FOX26 Morning News in Houston, Texas.  She and her husband, Ed, are parents to Golden Doodle, Charley and rescue kitty, Mr. Bill.

Please note that because we use the same route, RUNNERS may begin lining up at 8:45 a.m. for the 9:00 a.m. run start. NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE RUN PORTION! 

WALKERS and their dogs must wait until 9:05 a.m. to begin lining up for the 9:15 a.m. walk start.  Strollers and/or wagons (for both humans and dogs) ARE permitted but ONLY IN THE WALK portion of the event.  Please note that the event site is on grass and some parts of the walk/run route is on gravel.

Come bring your children to the Kids' Area for fun and activities!  At 8am we will get things started with a 20-minute yoga class to get a good stretch in before the run. Throughout the day the kids area will be open with mini golf, bags, puppet-making, a hula hoop competition and some face painting. Make sure to stop by for lots of fun! 

If your pet gets injured during the event, please bring them to the Pet First Aid Station at the MedVet tent, where their team will provide medical services to any pets injured onsite. 
For basic first aid needs, please visit our Registration Tent where we will have a first aid kit.  For more serious needs, please visit our EMT medics

For all participants we have a complimentary Gear Check that you may use on event day.  However, if you would prefer your own personal locker, The Locker Drop will be on site this year for locker rentals, with 20% of proceeds being donated back to our event.  Locker Drop will be parked along Simmonds Ave right along our event for easy access.  You can prepay and reserve your locker today by clicking HERE!
Participants can pick up their shirts, bibs, Hero Hangout wristbands & cinch sacks (if qualified) and race day information at our Packet Pickup on Friday, June 1, 4-8pm, at the PAWS Chicago Lincoln Park Adoption Center, 1997 N Clybourn Avenue.  Participants are welcome to pick up items on behalf of other team members!

For those unable to attend, you will still be able to pick up your items on event day at the registration tent.  Please note that we will NOT mail out shirts after the event for those who do not pick theirs up (unless registered for the Cat Nap option).
Free STREET parking is available at Montrose Harbor.  Please pay attention to any signs noting any no park zones (e.g. on bridges).  Because Montrose is still open to the public on that day, participants are encouraged to arrive early and to carpool.  Divvy, walk or bike (if possible) to allow adequate parking for participants traveling with pets.  Parking LOTS do require payment.

After the walk/run our General Food and Beverage Tent will open at 9:20a.m. with bagels and samples from Corner Bakery, fruit by Stanley's, Mauer Sports Bars, RX Bars, water, Gatorade and BODYARMOUR beverages.

On Monday, June 4 ALL DAY we will be having a post event fundraiser at ALL ILLINOIS Chipotle locations!  Just present this flyer by download HERE or showing it (below) on your smart phone when you check out, and 50% of your bill will be donated to PAWS Chicago!  This includes catering orders!  Encourage your family, friends and coworkers to join us!
